Dr Mary Aiken
Distinguished Professor of the Practice of Cyber Analytics and Director of the CyberPsychology Research Centre
Mary Aiken is a CyberPsychologist and Research Fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Institute of Leadership. She is a Distinguished Professor of the Practice of Cyber Analytics and serves as a faculty member at the Dr. Steve Chan Center for Sensemaking, one of the centers of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Resilience and Sustainability (AIRS), which is jointly anchored at Swansea University’s Network Science Research Center and Hawaii Pacific University.
Mary is the Academic Advisor (Psychology) to the European Cyber Crime Centre (EC3) at Europol. Her report on “The Cyberpsychology of Internet Facilitated Organised Crime” was published in the recent Europol Internet Organised Crime Threat Assessment report iOCTA, 2014.
Mary is a Fellow at the IBM Swansea University Network Science Research Center (NSRC), and lecturer in Criminology and Research Fellow at the School of Law Middlesex University.
Mary’s research focuses on virtual criminal profiling and cyber behavioural analysis. She is currently leading an international research project in conjunction with INTERPOL and the Garda Siochana, the London Metropolitan Police, the Australian Federal Police and the Los Angeles Police Department. She is involved in a number of Forensic CyberPsychology research areas including; organised cyber crime, cyber reporting of crime, virtual behavioural profiling, cyber analytics, human trafficking & technology, cyberstalking, cyberbullying, child welfare in cyberspace, personal cyber security and safety.
Mary is recognized as an expert at national and European level in policy debates at the intersection of technology and human behavior. She recently co-led a White House research team focused on “Tackling Technology Facilitated Human Trafficking”. In 2013 she was appointed by the Department of Communications (Republic of Ireland) to the Internet Content Governance Advisory Group. She is a spokesperson and expert contributor to the European Commission’s Safer Internet Day. She is an Observer to the INTERPOL Specialists Group on Crimes Against Children.
